Unfold the Pages of Your Life – journal writing for
pleasure and purpose
September 28-October 5, 2008
Why keep a journal?
As time spins by it’s easy to leave
each phase of your life behind without stopping to reflect
on how far you’ve come. See this week as a gift of time
and space in which, with expert guidance, you can write down
what really matters to you. “Class” runs only
in the mornings so all the rest of your time is free to swim,
snorkel, laze, explore, shop and or just loll in the pool
– whatever makes you happy! Whether you keep a journal
for your own pleasure or as a history to pass on to others,
it’s important for your words to shine. As you sit with
Lindsey, you’ll learn how to craft writing that’s
personal and powerful, laying down memories you’ll enjoy
re-reading for years to come. You will weave together strands
of your experience and share and hear stories within the group.
As the week unfolds you will realise that there is no such
thing as an ordinary life and discover that writing about
your life is a great way to clarify issues and create dreams
for your future.
What the week’s about
You’ll create a very personal notebook
that you’ll want to keep adding to once you’ve returned
home. As you progress, you will gain more understanding of the
steps that have brought you this far and can dare to express
your hopes and dreams for years ahead. By the end of the week
you’ll have begun to set down the evidence of a life well-lived
– your life, with all its complexity, richness, drama
and humour. It can be part memoir, part vision document, part
storehouse of everything that’s important to you.
Sharing stories is part of the delight of this week, so come
prepared to read out loud to the group at least some of the
writing that you’ll do. In the friendship that builds
during the course everyone gets to feels comfortable about this.
The idea is not to open you to criticism in any way but to aid
everyone in understanding and enjoying the great tales we all
have inside us.

Feedback from Participants
"Wow - thank you ever so much for a wonderful
weekend. I would describe my learning as ever so subtle, yet
totally profound. I am delighted with the results. Absolutely
delighted. I now know my book will be completed!" –
Brenda Kirk.
"Thank you so much for such a gently powerful
weekend. It was fun to write in a facilitated context and
I am sure we all learned heaps – I know I did. I have a renewed
relationship with writing again and I thank you for that."
– Amanda Fleming.
"I really enjoyed your course and want…part
two? It's really interesting now, when memories jump forward,
to expand on them and allow the picture to unfold more with
smells and expressions and feelings. I can begin to understand
how to put it all into words." –
Donna Rose Hall.
“I had a fantastic time. You have such a lovely
relaxed style of running a workshop. One of the things that
I have gained from the workshop is the understanding that
writing is a bit like art. Everyone interprets things in their
own way. For example, when we wrote a letter to New Zealand,
every one of them was so different and so beautifully
written as well.” – Jeni Kearns.
“You are truly a magician the way you weave
your magic. Lindsey, you're an awesome facilitator. Thank
you so much.” – Paul Kirk
